Why "Alta Reina"?

Hey Tall Girl,

When I first started dreaming up a brand for tall women’s outdoor clothing, I called it Mountain Amazon.

To me, that name represented strong, tall women conquering and ruling in the mountains. It felt powerful and fitting.

But my husband, who works in tech and happens to be a former Amazon employee—gently pointed out a problem. He told me, “There’s no way anyone searching for Mountain Amazon online will ever find you. Between the company and the rainforest, you’d be buried in search results for pages.” He was right. So, for a while, Mountain Amazon was just a placeholder name as I focused on creating the clothing itself.

A few years later, I had lunch with a talented woman in my community who had experience with several clothing brands. We talked about my vision, what I wanted the brand to stand for, who it was for, and the feeling I hoped to create for tall women. After our chat, she sent me a thoughtful follow-up email with her reflections… and a name suggestion: Alta Reina.

From the moment I read it, I loved it.

I’ve always admired the Spanish language and the diverse cultures connected to it. Alta means “tall,” and Reina means “queen.” When said together Alta Reina even sounds a little like “all-terrain,” which felt like a playful nod to the outdoors and adventure.

The name just clicked.

It may not be the easiest name to remember, but it’s full of meaning and heart. Every time I say it, I feel proud. Alta Reina isn’t just a brand, it’s a celebration of tall women who are strong, capable, and ready for whatever adventure comes next.

Cheerfully,

Suzi
