Tall Girl Thoughts: Ride Share Cars

Hey Tall Girl,

Recently, I travelled; Boise, New York City, and Seattle. I shared a ride with someone on all of them, friend, daughter, mother, and I just was dumbfounded nearly every time. I was also very grateful that the drivers were all better than I had a few years ago, that were TERRIFYING! So... baby steps.

First trip was Boise, a (tall) girlfriend's birthday. We went out knowing we wanted to have a couple drinks (not that we drink that much, but best to be safe!). We ordered the Uber Women Driver category and it showed up and was a nice little BMW, however, we both (she is also 5'11") had to have our heads at an angle to sit in the back and then upon getting out, my shoe got stuck under the drivers seat and I almost fell into the road. Grace and poise at it's finest! It was so uncomfortable we chose a different category on the way home, which was a Toyota Highlander, it had great headroom and legroom! Miracles do happen! 50% success on that trip.

In NYC my youngest daughter and I got a Uber into the city, and it was a very nice 4-door Honda Civic. The headroom was fine, and the legroom was good. Oddly, no problems with fitting in. Heading back to the airport a couple days later a mini van swung around the corner and I was beyond happy. One simply can't go wrong with a mini van.

Finally, Seattle with my mom, a very clean Prius. After taking my hair clip out (cuz, OMG!!! ouch!), my head snuggled perfectly into the roof of back seat and again. Fortunately, the legroom was enough so I could have my laptop bag.

Out of 5 rides, I had a 40% success rate. The other 60%? Let’s just say I’m lucky I didn't need a chiropractor afterward.

When you use a ride service, do you preview the car first? Or just commit and hope you don't hurt yourself?

Cheerfully,

Suzi
