Tall Girl on the Trail: With Dogs, Without Dogs, Always Sweaty
Share
Hey Tall Girl,
Some hikes are all about the dogs. Some are… gloriously not.
This past week I got out for a couple of short hikes and a nice long on. A few with my two chaos muppets (Pearl and Boulder) and one human-only! I love both for different reasons. The dog hikes are full of tail wags, stick drama, leaping through sage brush to chase deer and regular reminders to pack twice as much water (because Pearl acts like he’s dying after 15 minutes). But the solo one? Pure peace. No tangled leashes. No poop bags. Just a breeze, dusty shoes, sore calves and enough headspace to think about fall colors and base layer fabrics (which I have been absolutely living in).
I’ve been testing a few new fits on these hikes — same PowerWool skirt and long sleeve combo I’ve been tweaking all summer. I keep reaching for it because it actually works when I start out a little chilly and finish dripping.
Anyway, if you’ve been debating a hike this week, take THIS IS YOUR SIGN. Autumn is the perfect time for hiking, dogs or no dogs, it's SO good out there. What’s your favorite hike lately? Any gear you keep reaching for?
Cheerfully,
Suzi
