Snow Is Back (And So Am I)

Hey Tall Girl,

We finally got some precipitation in Idaho last week!

Unfortunately, I was sick the entire time. Seven straight days in bed. No powder turns for this tall girl. Ugh.

But I geared up on Tuesday, and it was worth the wait. Flat light, snow at the top, near whiteout visibility in places, rain at the base. Classic 43-degree PNW “is it winter or spring?” kind of day (which by the way, is unusual for this area, as it is high-desert, not Seattle...). There wasn’t feet of fresh powder, but there was just enough softness to hop into the bumps under the lift without scraping pure ice. I will take that little cushion for my long legs on the groomers any day.

WHAT DID YOU WEAR? Thank you for asking. I donned the Alta Reina Adventure Teal Base Layer set, topped with my hopefully-not-forever-a-prototype shell bib and jacket. The layering felt spot on. No cold gaps at the wrists. No high-waters showing all the buckles on my boots. Just tall-woman proportions doing what they’re supposed to do. I was a little chilly at the start, but once I got moving and found some good lines in the bumps, I was grateful I hadn’t over-layered.

The shell kit is all black. Not perfect. Still a prototype. But gosh, I feel good in it. No bulk. No restriction. Just move-your-tall-body comfort. Maybe in a couple of years, if you all keep loving and buying the base layers and what’s coming next, we can build enough momentum to bring outerwear into full production. That is the dream.

The rest of this week has been spent at the sewing table, working on a new t-shirt pattern and stitching prototypes. I meet with the pattern maker next week to finalize the UPF shirt so we can move through the next ten steps toward getting a full size run into production for summer.

Alta Reina is building this thoughtfully. One piece at a time. For tall women who actually move.

Cheerfully,

Suzi
